We are committed to the government’s PREVENT strategy, which promotes British values and we align these with our own core values. These values help strengthen our commitment and support to our learners and enable us to embed and promote these within our programme delivery.
Prevent
Prevent is part of the Government’s anti-terrorism strategy. It is intended to stop vulnerable people being radicalised into violent extremism. Anyone who has information regarding suspected terrorist activity should report this to the police or the Anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789 321 or complete a secure online form at act.campaign.gov.uk If someone is believed to be vulnerable to, and at risk of being drawn into, radicalisation, they should be referred to one of the above Designated Safeguarding Leads at SCCU in the first instance who will contact the relevant Channel/PREVENT panel.
British Values
As a provider, we actively support the embedding of British Values into our training and activities. We endorse the fundamental British Values of:
Democracy
“A democracy means rule by the people. The name is used for different forms of government, where the people can take part in the decisions that affect the way their community is run.”
The rule of law
“The principle that all people and institutions are subject to and accountable to law that is fairly applied and enforced; the principle of government by law.”
Individual liberty
“The liberty of an individual to exercise freely those rights generally accepted as being outside of governmental control.”
Mutual respect
“Mutual respect is understanding that we all don’t share the same beliefs and values. We care for each other’s thoughts and feelings. Respect for an individual’s dignity, which is reciprocated.”
Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
“A fair, objective, and open-minded attitude to those whose faith and beliefs may differ from our own, and for those without faith.”
These are not exclusive to being British and are shared by other democratic countries as a way of creating an orderly society, where individual members can feel safe, valued and can contribute for the good of themselves and others.
We want staff and learners to be part of this learning experience by having a voice to express how we are doing as a training provider. If you feel that SCCU Ltd are not supporting British Values, please contact one of the Designated Safeguarding Leads who will act upon your concerns.
